Messianic Winter Holiday Helper

8 May, 2017 messianicapologetics 0

The Winter holiday season is frequently a conflicted time of year for many people in today’s Messianic movement. On the one hand, most Messianic Believers do not celebrate the holiday of Christmas on December 25, due to some of its pre-Christian origins and questionable traditions. On the other hand, the birth of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) is a Biblical event which we all must acknowledge in some way. Furthermore, during this same Winter season, the Jewish community commemorates the Festival of Dedication or Chanukah. What is a Messianic Believer to do? The Messianic Winter Holiday Helper is a valuable […]

Pagan, Christmas and Easter

UPDATED 09 DECEMBER, 2009 I have heard it said that you do not believe that Christmas and Easter are pagan holidays. Could you please explain? Messianic Apologetics is a solution-driven ministry. In dealing with controversial subject matters, we try to deal in fair-minded and scholarly terms, demonstrating the testimony of people who have changed for the better spiritually, and not worse. As it relates to the holidays, for example, all too often during Chanukah in the Winter, and Passover in the Spring, we as Messianic Believers can spend too much time focusing on what our Christian brethren are doing in […]

originally posted 12 December, 2001 reproduced from the Messianic Winter Holiday Helper No matter who you are or what religious ideology you hold to, the Winter holiday season involving Christmas will be a challenge.[1] It is first a challenge to non-Believers as they are continually presented with the message of the birth of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) into a world that is lost in sin. Secondly, the Christmas holiday is a challenging time for many Christians who seek to remember the birth of our Savior, but at the same time all too often indulge themselves in overly frivolous gift-giving. Christmas Dinner

POSTED 09 DECEMBER, 2009 Should I attend Christmas dinner with my extended family? Many of today’s Messianic Believers, who once celebrated Christmas, still have to interact with their Christian family during the Winter holiday season. The Spring holiday season is admittedly much easier, because Easter does not have the same kind of commercialism associated with it as Christmas, and many churches today hold some kind of Passover seder meal. It is much easier to tell Christian family, who are familiar with the Passover seder to some degree, that you remember Yeshua’s resurrection in conjunction with your Messianic congregation’s Passover remembrance. […]

UPDATED 09 DECEMBER, 2009 Do you celebrate it? Christmas is, without question, a very sensitive subject for many Believers—and we would emphasize understanding between those who do not celebrate it, and those who celebrate it in ignorance. We cannot find in Scripture where God mandates that we observe a holiday with decorated trees, mistletoe, holly, Santa Claus, and presents. On the contrary, the Prophet Jeremiah tells us that we are to not be as the heathen who adorn trees: “Thus says the Lord, ‘Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be terrified by the signs of […]
