Saving a Soul From Death

At the close of his letter, James (Jacob), the half-brother of Yeshua, communicates, “let him know that the one who turns a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:20, TLV). Whatever we can do, as men and women of God, to keep people from falling away from faith in Yeshua, we need to make the effort to do. The scariest end-time prophecy that I am aware of, is 2 Thessalonians 2:3, which speaks of how “the apostasy comes first” (NASU), a massive departure from God, the Bible, and His ways.

Since late July, the Messianic Apologetics website has undergone a massive server transfer, and a necessary reconstruction of our much of the whole site. While I hardly enjoyed some the physical and mental stress involved–this has actually been one of the most important things that I have done in recent memory. All of the articles and FAQ entries are re-integrated. We have significant sections on: Biblical Composition, the Divinity of Yeshua, the Validity of Torah, Sabbath, and Kosher. We have a section which will focus on the Messiahship of Yeshua. We have also added a new audio podcast for iTunes and Google Play. Our new podcast schedule announced just last week, should see us be able to feature material in a more well-rounded way. We have come a long way from our weekly Wednesday Night Bible Study of the past!

As the description of the Messianic Apologetics website goes: “a massive online depository of information and teaching.” Why do I think it is so important to have this website incorporate so much, and continue to add new information all the time? James 5:20 is why!

There are many, many more websites, blogs, YouTube channels, and other online venues, promoting various aspects of the Messianic movement, the Hebrew/Hebraic Roots movement, etc., then when I originally entered full-time ministry in the Spring of 2003. Many of the ministries and voices you will encounter, are sincerely and genuinely serving the Kingdom of God. Many more of them are little more than online soapboxes, springboards to promote hype and sensationalism, and are in various ways actually contributing to the prophesied apostasy.

Doubts can be introduced to people any number of ways. In 2005, a certain teacher released a serious of teachings claiming that the Epistle to the Hebrews was riddled with problems, and should be removed from our Bibles. Others out there claim that the writings of the Apostle Paul are anti-Torah and anti-Jewish, and thus should be treated with suspicion at best. There are people you will encounter, sitting in Messianic congregations today, who believe that Yeshua of Nazareth is the prophesied Messiah of Israel, but that He is ultimately a created being or entity and not God. Apostasy from the Holy Scriptures and the good news, can indeed be spurred on by any number of factors.

In our human strength and abilities, none of us is capable of technically “saving souls” from death–much less providing all of the answers to all of the questions and accusations that those who instinctively want to reject the Lord will throw at us. At the same time, each of us has been given certain gifts, talents, and skills to make a difference. In my case, the Lord actually has given me a significant gift of labor. I remember years ago discovering how the Latin Vulgate rendered the Greek of 2 Timothy 2:3, Sugkakopathēson hōs kalos stratiōtēs or “Suffer hardship with me” (NASU), as labora sicut bonus miles or “Labour as a good soldier” (Douay Rheims). The Latin Labora happens to be the motto of Clan MacKay of Lairg, so I actually have a personal stake in being a steady, hard worker! While I cannot do everything, I can do a great deal with the skills that God has blessed me with, to see that perhaps not all, but many, issues are fairly and reasonably addressed.

We are soon going to enter 2018 and the final years of the 2010s–which means that many issues we have been putting aside for “another day,” and many delayed changes and reforms, could soon very well be thrust upon Messianic people. Let us be ready for what is coming!
